ABOUT BLENDED TRIBES

Hi, I’m Tony Zagelow and welcome to Blended Tribes.

As far back as I can remember I have always been fascinated by the possibility of the human potential and how to leverage it for creating a better world.

I’m an engineer, consultant and, environmentalist that is obsessed with finding ways of blending living well and living sustainably. I am obsessed about living a life of possibilities and consistently stretching myself to live my life to its fullest potential.

Blended Tribes is a Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) site that I created as a commitment to help myself and others to build lives of growth and impact. It’s about developing focused growth in all areas of life so that you can make intentional choices that impact the world positively.

A foundational believe of mine is to simultaneously improve myself  while living as sustainably as possible.  Living in such a way allows for everyone to share in a healthy vibrant planet, build the lives we desire and leave meaningful legacies.

Everything I share is through the lens of green living practices with the goal to help people to live intentionally better lives.

MY STORY

I have a passion for minimalism. I enjoy finding elegant solutions to complex problems and sharing them with others. I apply this philosophy in writing, design and instruction.

A driving force for me is working with people to build an optimal team to achieve a desired objective.  I find great satisfaction in being a part of a team that supports the stretching of individual skill sets that contribute to an innovative work process and result.

I am a native Oregonian with over 35 years’ experience in the design and construction of the built environment. I literally grew up on construction sites as the son of a general contractor and real estate developer.  My experience includes work in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.

All through my childhood and collage career I worked with my father developing design and construction skills that I have used as a foundation to build my career upon.  Those formative years helped me develop the ability to understand good design, execute construction and to look for ways to reduce waste and increase profit.

Over the span of the last 20 years I have worked on an assortment of mechanical, energy and sustainability projects in a variety of roles.  I spent several years working as a controls contractor gaining experience with building automation design, and energy analysis.

My true passion lies with water.  Rainwater harvesting, gray water re-use and water conservation have been and still are much of my life’s focus.  He has always felt drawn to and connected with water and is currently focusing his energies on innovative hydro-centric projects.

I deeply and sincerely believe that the current global water crisis demands that water systems be optimized to ensure water security for the planets future.

I went on to earn an MBA with a concentration in management to enable myself to better leverage my skills in market research, negotiation, project creation, sales, incentive procurement, financial analysis and B2B Consultation.

In 2011 to better understand how natural systems work and to embrace biomimicry and biophilia into his work I earned my Permaculture Design Certification (PDC).  I use the 12 permaculture design principals to guide my design philosophy and influence my processes.
